Long Weekend Ahead

Why is it that whenever I get the rare chance of a long weekend break, I have to 'waste' at least half of it. I'll be off from work on Monday because it's Labour Day on Tuesday.

It's funny how I took such holidays for granted before I got married. Long breaks was just another regular weekend. I would've planned for a short getaway, but I was lazy. I just wanted to hang out in my own home doing nothing but watch meaningless TV shows. No motivation, no drive. Just brain hibernation.

Now, I would've done things differently. I would have seized every opportunities for nice trips to places I've always wanted to go, or go again. Not that I can't do it now, just that it's harder to make things happen because there's extra people who needs attention too. I think wanting to reward myself is NOT being selfish. I work, I endure the daily commuting, I try hard to please my parents and in-laws, I take care of my husband and my son, well, I think I deserve a good vacation damnit!

SO, I will be going to an island in the Bahamas!! OHHHH, to bask in the sun and pamper myself with spa treatments!

IN MY DREAMS.

Well, you know where I'll be. Have a good break!

Old Generation Men

Quote of the day: To love a man, you must understand him a lot and love him a little. To love a woman, you must love her a lot and try not to understand her at all.

The bitch gotta say this.

Disclaimer: The below does not apply to every single old man, it only applies to the guilty ones.

The old generation male chauvinist swines should change, simply because times have changed. And I'm talking about the leaders of my country, down to the simple family man living an average life as a civilian. But my focus now, is the simple family man.

1. Doesn't cook... AT ALL. Leaves everything to the wife/daughter/any female in the household. He is king, therefore is served daily with good home-cooked food or any food.

2. Doesn't learn how to cook. Doesn't want to. Doesn't care. Not interested. Cooking is sissy, and he is king, therefore, should be served daily with good home-cooked food or any food.

3. Doesn't do the dishes. He is not taking it for granted, merely believing that it's a rule that men don't do dishes. He is king, therefore is exempted from such laborious work.

4. Doesn't do the laundry. Being an extreme traditionalist, he must not attempt any physical contact with the women's undergarments because in his neanderthal little mind, it will bring him bad luck and will not win any lottery.

5. Doesn't iron. He doesn't know how to, and he doesn't want to learn anyway.

6. Doesn't clean the house. He only washes his precious car.

7. All his grown-up children must come home to visit often, to prove their filial piety, even with the little babies. He doesn't know/care/realize what the children go through to try to make him happy. Plain INsensitive.

Generally, every chores in the house is best left to the woman. Because she can do it. Even if I am exaggerating a little on some points, it is more or less along the same line. Such men, should start to change.

And then I think, it is the women who are spoiling the men. Like what I am doing! Somehow I couldn't shake the traditional role from myself. Although I am an equally capable financial contributor to the household ( if not, more), when I come home, I want to clean the house, do the laundry, iron his shirt and prepare dinner. It's not that I have to, but I want to. And it only made me tired and angry at him. That was 2 years ago. Now, I am still spoiling him. But I no longer feel angry. It's a role I play out of love.

Strange world.

Aching Monday

Quote of the day: Not one shred of evidence supports the notion that life is serious

I had black chicken herbal last night. Too tonic that I am suffering of 'heatiness' today. Body aching, sore throat, and just 'sickly'. But wait, nothing can beat the anticipation of the arrival of the stuff I bought online. *pant pant*

The Price of Life

Quote of the day: By the time you can make ends meet, they move the ends.

I think the quote is so true. But yesterday, today and from now onwards till the day it ends, it has a positive connotation for me. Not only can I make ends meet, I can enjoy humble pleasures with the additional amount of earnings from this month onwards. It's BONUS day!! And salary increment bonanza! The amount of the increment came as pleasant surprise. So pleasant I just want to take the day off and throw money on the streets.

Right now, with way things are going, and while it lasts, I am enjoying this privilege. I am earning more, AND able to spend more time with Daniel now. It seems almost like a perfect arrangement, which reminds me of my constant prayers to God for 'better times ahead'. The power of prayers...

Amen. OK, i'm going shopping now.

God Bless The Internet

I did some online shopping yesterday and today, and I think I am getting addicted! I can't help but click on the "Add To Cart" and "Checkout" icons. Before the brilliant invention of VPost, a new-ish postal system under the wings of Singapore Post, it was difficult to shop online, especially the American online shops that do not ship internationally, and even if some do, the international shipping charges are exorbitant. Now, I can send all merchandise to the VPost USA address, and they can collate the items bought from different locations, and send it to Singapore at one go! How ingenious isn't it! Gosh, this kind of shopping is exhilarating, because the excitement grows by the day as you look forward to receive your package. Oh, so hot and bothered now!
Pictures coming...

I think I've memorize my credit card number..GULP!

Gai Tzao

Quote of the day: No man has ever been shot while doing the dishes.

As mentioned way back, this is a delicious Chinese home-cooked chicken in wine and ginger.

Friday Culture Night

Quote of the day: Eat well, stay fit, die anyway.

It's great to have talented workmates, particularly one who sings a rich baritone. Quite a gutsy personality that chap. Last Friday, some of my culture vulture colleagues and I attended his solo concert at the Esplenade. A big part of the concert's proceeds will fund his examinations for a Diploma in Music.

The recital studio in Esplenade, where many musicals, plays and other artsy farts events are held. This is of course not the grandeur-est of the hall, which I've never been in.

View of Esplenade from where we were dining at. Behold the eyes of the Drosophila! The locals call it The Durian too.

Who is Uglier?

Quote of the day: Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.

I'm talking about motorists, especially car drivers. An unpleasant incident opened my eyes wider recently and has given me something to talk about Singaporean drivers.

I was on AYE, an expressway, driving home after work, and as usual my route is the same everyday. I put on my signals to turn into an exit, and slowly inched in. There was this equally black sleek car, a Toyota Camry, SDR 9599M, that was already on the exit lane before me, but it wasn't going any faster than me. And I was already approaching quite the end of the exit, so I drove faster and switched into the exit lane before it's too late, still with my signals ON. I didn't do anything sinfully wrong rightt? The Camry dude didn't seem to like that coz he flashed his lights behind me. Fine. Whatever. When we came to this double-lane road, the dude came beside me, and glared. I looked back at him, stone-faced without blinking. Then I turned away, and when I looked back at him, he was just putting his hand down after what I thought was giving me the indecent finger gesture. Well, I didn't see the finger, so it's not counted. Shameless ah pek.

From then onwards, I started to observe the drivers in Singapore. 90% of the time, when you put on your signals to switch lane, the cars will go faster to be ahead. That's one finding so far.

I asked Paul about KL drivers since he's been driving there a lot lately. He said most of the time, drivers give way. And they won't force/squeeze their way in either. So educated siah!! Or is this just many many coincidences.

If you're in JB, you'll find that the drivers are a bit uncivilized. They will find all means to beat the jam, like cutting queue, taking alternative lanes that will lead back to the main lane, which creates bottleneck and the jam in the first place. As long as there are space to occupy, they will do it... all in the name of I-want-to-bypass-all-these-stupid-people-who-queue.

The motorcyclists who work in Singapore are the best. They are literally kings of the road because they sometimes outnumber the cars, so they think they rule the streets. Regardless of whether you put on signal or not, they whizz pass you blatantly, won't slow down, won't move to the side, won't give a crap basically. They are probably the most stressed up motorist you'll ever see. It's all about TIME TIME TIME. MUST GET TO WORK FAST. MUST GET HOME FAST. DON'T GIVE SHIT ABOUT THE CARS AND LORRIES. I SWERVE HERE AND THERE BECAUSE I LIKE. JACK BE NIMBLE JACK BE QUICK.

Nobody loves traffic jams right, and it's here to stay whether we like it or not. Times have changed, more cars are going to be on the road, so why can't we all just give way to less stressful driving. Hey, that's a good bumper sticker phrase, " Give Way To LESS STRESSful driving". Gotta make one and start a revolution. Honk honk!

Discrimination? Or not...

Quote of the day: For every action, there is an equal and opposite government program.

Once a upon a time, I decided to drive to work everyday. I applied for a season parking tag, on a monthly payment basis. In Biopolis where I work, there are two carpark basements, where seasonal users park are B2 and hourly users park at B3, and this is has been the policy forever.

Yesterday, I received a confirmed notification that all foreign-registered vehicles are to park at B3 only, to facilitate tracking of foreign vehicles as part of enhancing security measures. Now, this is new to me. I wonder if such policies are implemented anywhere else in the world, even in America where discrimination is a huge no-no. So, I am not sure if their reason given is at all really really 'sound'. Should I pursue? Or should I just shut up and comply and be discriminated.

Jobs in KL?

Quote of the day: Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often.

I saw a recruitment ad on the papers last night. INFOVALLEY is hiring bioinformaticians; they want IT-based experts in the processes of genomics and PROTEOMICS. Hey hey! That's me!! It's not everyday you see the word Proteomics on he recruitment section. BUT the best knowledge I have of computers is how to change my blog template. *!!!!* How lidat how!

My Head is Spinning

Some bug going around in the office, we have 3 people down yesterday, including myself. I felt like I was drugged or something, like the world is spinning. It must be some viral infection of my midle ear, that was why I was off-balance all the time. And perpetually tired and out of breath.

Anyway, when the traffic was kind last Friday, I pulled this feat when I got home. Dinner in an hour.

Simple food really. Beats eating junk food outside eh. Wait a minute... I cooked junk food too!
